If a member becomes disabled he or she may be eligible to receive a disability retirement from the Employees’ Retirement System of Rhode Island (ERSRI).
To apply for a disability pension, please contact ERSRI at 401-462-7600. The ERSRI Customer Service Center is open Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Accidental Disability Pensions: An accidental disability pension is a benefit available to members who are physically or mentally unable to perform their job as a result of an accident that happened at work. To learn more about accidental disability pensions click here.
Ordinary Disability Pensions: An ordinary disability pension is a benefit available to active members who are physically or mentally unable to perform their job due to illness or injury that did not occur at work. To learn more about ordinary disability pensions click here.
Post Retirement for Disability Pensions: Members who have been awarded disability pensions and have not reached their retirement age are required to provide ERSRI with periodic medical updates and earnings information. To learn more about member reporting requirements click here.
